New AI Startup Jobs - Week Ending March 2nd, 2023

95 jobs & some news 🥲

“Paint the theme "All Grown Up" using imagery from Detroit” - Dall-E 2, March 2023

TL;DR - I am going to have to stop blogging jobs. My last post will be on Monday, March 11th (3 more posts). Does anyone want to take it over?

Why is it ending?

I started this blog on December 18th after wanting to deep dive on Artificial Intelligence. I had been keeping an eye on the subject matter, but with Open AI’s releases late last year becoming material, I felt the timing was right to have a proper look at the space (who could forget IBM Watson?).

I have been maintaining another pre-IPO job list for over 10 years that I made public a few years ago and it was only for me and my friends. I went to update it with some AI companies and felt overwhelmed by the ecosystem so I felt it needed to be split out.

I started looking at Artificial Intelligence a bit more to see if there are any jobs out there for me as I was interested in perhaps getting back into the workforce. I have been ‘funemployed’ for two years now, waiting for the pandemic to shake out. I had a few caveats the roles needed to be suitable, stimulating, and could accommodate me working remotely next to the sea in Croatia 🇭🇷

I was trying to thread a needle and looking at all these job boards I felt a bit overwhelmed by how many links there were. The best companies also don’t tend to publish good jobs on LinkedIn, Indeed etc. So I started setting up automation to scan the job boards using Visualping for any daily changes.

After doing that, I realized that I was being alerted to many jobs that perhaps were not for me and that the information could be useful for other people. So I started this Substack to disseminate that information.

Around New Years I ran into an idea for a Human Resources software company. I have been massaging that thought for the past two months and I think it has legs. Over the past few weeks, that concept has progressed heavily and has become overly consuming. I need to give it all my focus and attention in order to see if it can succeed.

Strangely, a lot of the concepts & companies I have looked at here have helped me get to this point. To a degree, I have now grown up (Thank you Detroit rapper Danny Brown).

I was asked earlier this week “how long do I intend to do this” and it was a catalyst for me to realize I need to let writing this blog go.

So I am looking for 2 things right now:

  1. Does anyone want to take over the blog? Happy to hand it over if anyone is interested. You will get no money, and lose about an hour a day, so there is no financial gain (unless you can keep at it and work it out). You will also inherit 80+ subscribers on Substack & about the same on Twitter. You also need to be of good character. This isn’t a platform to punch ads to people. The audience is looking for jobs & they need help to find them - so your values need to align, you cannot exploit this audience, your job would be to first and foremost help them. If not I will leave the blog dormant and just sporadically update the list at https://aistartup.jobs/

  2. In order to see if my “startup” is viable, I am looking to speak to contacts who work in Human Resources (not recruiters) and CEO’s. They need to work at companies with more than 500 Employees with those staff members being distributed across multiple locations.

In the meantime, would love to actually know if any of you got some help from this. I have never gotten any feedback so just curious. I am hoping that I have helped 🙂

Phew! Resuming transmission 📺….

Highlight of the Newsletter

John Oliver covered AI on his show on Sunday. This video goes for 27 minutes. I am not sure how much you will learn from it but you will be entertained. (Are you not entertained? 🗡️)

Weights & Biases - Documentation Manager - San Francisco / Remote 🇺🇸

I feel sorry for all of the people working with written content right now with all the disruption happening with generative AI. The shift has impacted many teams who have targeted Content & Technical writers as easy targets during this tech layoff cycle.

Weights & Biases has a role available in this space and they are a high-quality AI company working with ML Ops.

The below list is populated from a list of 400+ pre-IPO, Artificial Intelligence companies I track. You can see the complete list and their details here:
