European Artificial Intelligence Act comes into force today.

Some of us are still getting over our trauma from the launch of GDPR, but here we are with another EU law coming into effect that could impact startups together with slowing innovation in the region.

The European Artificial Intelligence Act (EU AI Act) became active today. For any organizations breaching the law, fines could go up to 7% of the company's global annual turnover.

We are seeing some products being simply held back from EU customers to circumvent any litigation. Most notable exclusions have been Metaโ€™s withdrawal of access to itโ€™s Llama multimodal model and Apple ruling out its Apple Intelligence launch in 2024 within the market.

In the US? Legendary NFL commentator Al Michaels lent his AI-cloned voice in order to provide Peacock users with a daily Olympic summary. Itโ€™s maybe the most high profile public AI voice clone since Anthony Bourdain.

The Today Show summarized how to access this technology through your Peacock application earlier this week.
