Leonardo.ai gets acquired by Canva 🇦🇺
This morning it was reported by TechCrunch that Australian design Unicorn Canva purchased local graphic generative AI startup Leonardo.ai.
According to the Australian Financial Review:
Both Canva and Leonardo declined to disclose the price tag, but sources with knowledge of the deal said it was higher than Leonardo’s last funding round valuation, which was understood to have been $US80 million ($122 million).
We spotted a few weeks back on our June 21st blog that Leonardo.ai was embarking on Australia’s first LLM. Strategically for Canva, the acuisition boosts their AI story before a potential IPO. The deal also provides Australia’s A16z, Blackbird.vc, with an exit for one of its most high profile recent funding recipients to its biggest success to date - Canva.
We wonder if Leonardo.ai is worth less than the most expensive Leonardo Da Vinci painting that was sold for US$450 million in 2017 🤔
