This morning the New York Times is calling the end of the beginning of the A.I. boom.
With Stability AI contracting, Inflection’s founders moving on and a lack of revenue across the board, their article (paywall) makes a solid case that we are hitting some maturity with the current AI boom. What raised my eyebrow the most was the following around fundraising…
Investors have poured $330 billion into about 26,000 A.I. and machine-learning start-ups over the past three years, according to PitchBook, which tracks the industry. That’s two-thirds more than the amount they spent funding 20,350 A.I. companies from 2018 through 2020.
So far that’s a lot of money for nothing. I want my MTV.
OpenAI in Paris 🥖
Like Emily, it seems OpenAI is moving to the French capital for career opportunities. We spotted their first hire based out of Paris.
It’s unclear if they’re opening an office there, but with the city being the center of AI capability for continental Europe, that is probably not far behind. The role is a GTM position. It’s an interesting move not long after French LLM unicorn Mistral went to San Francisco to start beefing up engineering capability in March.
